Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the currrent situation on activity of daily
living, depression, health problems in elderly as the pilot study of health promotion
programe for the aged.
Study subjects consist ed of 104 per sons who reside in institution and at home. The tool
used this study was the Older Americans Resources and Services from July and August in1998. The colledted data was analyzed frequency, percentage, mean, t - test , F - test , and Pearson correlation by SAS.
The result of the study showed the following.
As compared elderly group who resides at home with at homenur sing, the group who
reside at home was significantly higher score for activity of daily living. However there
was no differ ent depres sion between them. There wer e no correlation with activity of
daily living and depression.
Ther e were consisted of instument al daily activity and physical daily acitivity in Activity
of Daily Living. Predictors of instrumental daily activity were age, types of insurence,
education, and cognitive function. Predictors of physical daily activity were age and
cognitive function.
Most elderly was having circulatory problems , arthritis , gastric disorder and cerebral
accidents with aplasia. In s eries they were taking several medicines such as analgesics , antiarthritics , accerlating circulation and antihypertensives . Also it was shown that they were sowhat anxious , lost living pattern, and then decreased satisfaction of their life and they had impaired vision and hearing, experienced fr acture and insomnia.
Finally for elderly health management , it is necessary that we plan to establish care
intervention after asses sing according to health status.
